Coming Soon… Khum Hom, A Tale of Fragrant Thai Bites at Mövenpick BDMS Wellness Resort

Opening in January 2020, this unique dining destination will specialise in regional dishes created by Chef Ian and featuring a creative twist and hand-picked local ingredients

Mövenpick BDMS Wellness Resort, the health-focused retreat in downtown Bangkok, is preparing to introduce its in-house guests and local residents to a new era of Thai dining at Khum Hom. Chef Ian delivers a unique take on authentic and honest Thai cuisine at Khum Hom.

Scheduled to open in January 2020, Khum Hom will deliver a unique new take on Thai cuisine, by recreating authentic and original recipes from the four culinary corners of Thailand: north, northeast, central and south.

The word ‘khum’ is Thai for a ‘bite-sized portion’, while ‘hom’ means ‘aromatic’, so diners can look forward to a delectable selection of wholesome dishes that are both fragrant and full of flavor. By focusing on the origins of its ingredients, including responsibly-sourced and organic produce, the restaurant’s highly-skilled culinary team will craft outstanding dining experiences that are dedicated to well-being, while also demonstrating a deep respect for Thailand’s rich culinary heritage.

Mövenpick BDMS Wellness Resort understands that in Thai culture, food is about much more than just sustenance; it is an integral part of life that brings people together. Chef Ian and his team of young chefs now invite all Thai and international diners to savor wholesome and heart-warming cuisine at Khum Hom, overlooking the resort’s lush tropical gardens. The aim is to create a casual and competitively-priced fine-dining concept where families and couples can return time and again.

Khum Hom will become the fifth F&B outlet at Mövenpick BDMS Wellness Resort, joining Tamarind, the healthy all-day dining restaurant, Rim Klong Café, a canalside bakery and coffee shop, Cinnamon Lobby Bar and Sala Pool Bar.

Anantara Siam Introduces Private Sacred Inking Sessions by Bangkok’s Revered Bamboo Tattoo Master

Anantara Hotels, Resorts and Spas’ flagship hotel, Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel, is introducing private sacred tattoo sessions by one of the City of Angels’ most famous Sak Yant masters, Ajarn Neng Onnut.

Anantara Siam is the only hotel in Thailand that offers this exclusive private service by the revered master.

Sak Yant tattoos also referred to as bamboo tattoos, are expertly engraved into the skin entirely by hand using a traditional Khem Sak – a handcrafted metal rod designed to replicate the shape of a bamboo stick that is often passed down to an Ajarn, meaning master in Thai, by their own master.

These tattoos are popular among Thais who mostly visit a temple to get inked by a Buddhist monk and are traditional forms of tattooing magical ancient geometric and deity symbols with Buddhist prayers onto the body.  The tattoos are sacred blessings that are believed to impart magical powers for luck; protection; charisma; fortune; and other powers onto the wearer to help in their own personal journey.

In recent years the practice has become increasingly popular with foreign tourists to the Kingdom, thanks in part to Ajarn Neng who inked Sak Yant tattoos on Hollywood actors including Ryan Phillippe; Jesse Bradford; and Brooke Shields; and famed Hong Kong actor, Alex Fong.

The most famous Yant is the Haah Taew or five-line Yant; and Ajarn Neng also inks simple one-line Yants and Gao Yord, a nine-spine Yant; or much bigger Yants designs like Twin Tigers.

A master, teacher and learned scholar in the sacred art of Sak Yant, Ajarn Neng Onnut has more than ten years of perfecting his expert craft on over 10,000 people under his Khem Sak, and his fascination with this sacred art has been described as something of an obsession.

“Being an Ajarn in Sak Yant was not something I planned, but when I realized it was what I must do, it was as if everything before had been leading me to that moment,” Ajarn Neng explained.

Sak Yant is one of the world’s most ancient and sacred traditions and becoming learned in it includes mastering the intricate artwork of the tattoos, which consists of almost 1,000 different graphic images.  Ajarn Neng’s passion to become a master also saw him learning how to read and write the entire ancient Khmer and Pali scripts, memorizing all the unique prayers and secret spells, chants, and mantras that relate to the sacred tattoos.

Commenting on the introduction of private Sak Yant tattoo sessions by Ajarn Neng Onnut at the luxury urban retreat in the heart of one of the world’s most enigmatic capital cities, Daniel Simon, Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel’s General Manager, said that Anantara takes pride in connecting travelers to the indigenous with passionate expertise.

“We are honored and thrilled to welcome Ajarn Neng to one of Bangkok’s most exclusive addresses and to offer our guests an authentic, once-in-a-lifetime experience that is a quintessential Thai tradition.

“Perfectly blending an elegant location with an indigenous experience, every detail has been carefully considered to ensure the traditional sacred tattoos are executed with the utmost care given to hygiene and comfort,” Simon concluded.

The private Sak Yant tattoo sessions by Ajarn Neng Onnut are performed in the privacy of a guest’s suite, or in a private treatment room.  A consultation by the Ajarn takes place the day before when the master meets and learns about the guest’s life and goals in life and decides on a fitting Yant.  Before and after inking the Yant, the Ajarn performs a ceremony where the body and art are blessed, giving the wearer a permanent and deeply significant reminder of the unique experience.

Prices for a private Sak Yant tattoo session by Ajarn Neng Onnut at Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel start from $800 USD for a small symbol called Na and $1,000 USD for a one-line Yant, to $3,000 USD per hour for a Twin Tiger design.

A prior reservation is essential and can be made by contacting Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel on telephone +66 2 126 8866 or email siam@anantara.com.
