“X” the Xhibition slowmotion x Tul Waitoonkiat

How to cope with “departing”.

A poet and A group of designers joined forces.

.

slowmotion, leading design studio with years of experiences in fashion, music, and creative industries, is introducing mix-media art exhibition based on Tul Waitoonkiat’s new set of 26 poems under the theme of “X”, which related to wide range of subjects from love to depression to politics.

.

Since writing is a common way of poets to heal their pain and cure a depression from breaking-up. Tul, a singer, a composer, and a poet, beautifully transforms his sorrow from ended relationship in to a flow of verses. slowmotion, starting from a curiosity to explore the way to deal with the feeling of loss in any aspect of life, designs art experience, based on graphic design with various materials and presentations.

.

This exhibiton is also a part of Bangkok Design Week 2020, which is under the theme of “Resilience” in digital era. The period will start from 1st to 16th February 2020 and end with the concert of Tul and Zweed n’ Roll on 14th February, Valentine’s day.

.

The exhibition will demonstrate that poetry is not just letters or words on the paper. It can be interpreted and modified through visual designs and art objects in order to expand the way to appreciate literature, the way to examine nature of life, and realize that art and the process of making art can be an effective therapy for people’s suffering.

The speech by the French Ambassador in Thailand at the press conference announcing the upcoming Galleries Night on Feb. 14-15, 2020

First of all, I would like to wish you all the best for this New Year, may it bring you much happiness and may it be punctuated by exciting projects.

I would like also first, to thank the partners without whom this Galleries’ Night 7th edition would not be possible. Many of them accompany us on this special event but also throughout the year. I am happy and grateful that we share this common passion for arts and culture:

BMA (Bangkok Metropolitan Administration) TAT (Tourism Authority of Thailand)

BACC (Bangkok Art and Culture Centre) Thaibev

Perrier

Thai Airways Jim Thompson Aesop

And our media partners:

Pimclick Soimilk A day DONT

Lifestyle Asia

Latitudes magazine

Bam (Bangkok Art Map)

As you know, Nuit Blanche in Paris inspires the Galleries’ Night spirit. Today we can say that Bangkok has fully appropriated this event, which is part now of the cultural calendar of the year, with this noble ambition to make contemporary art accessible to the greatest number, through a singular event in its form as well as in its content. Last year, among many visitors, I was happy to meet some who traveled to Bangkok especially for Gallerie’s Night. I was impressed by the dynamism and the involvement of the volunteers that the galleries welcome to help guide and inform the public. I was delighted to see the colored Gallerie’s Night tuk-tuks traveling from one gallery to the next, taking away an amused and enthusiastic audience. Thanks to the smartphone application and map designed by Pimclick, it’s impossible to get lost! Everyone can create a tailor-made program for itself based on the exhibitions and detailed special events on these two tools.

This event is also a way of accompanying the growing development of galleries’ activity here. From all these past editions have sprung new passions and so many discoveries. On February 14th, visitors will have the opportunity to discover works in more than 44 galleries in the Silom and Sathorn districts and on February 15th, in more than 26 galleries in Sukhumvit.

70 Galleries are participation to this edition, it’s more than last year !

Bangkok is one of the Asian capitals that attract art lovers and professionals, as regularly reported in some articles in the French national press. It is a new art market place, which will host the second biennale dedicated to Contemporary Art, Bangkok Art Biennale, which will start at the end of this year.

But this beginning of the year is fully dedicated to Visual Arts! The Embassy of France is happy to be part of the next Bangkok Design Week with an exhibition that will testify to a great cooperation project we have led with Vietnam and Indonesia, mixing designers from these 3 Asian countries and French designers. I hope you will have the opportunity to discover D17/20, Design in Southeast Asia, in the building next door, at the Marine Police House, which will present more than 100 objects created by 43 designers associated with 17 factories, starting February 1st.

But, let’s focus to those who are at the heart of this evening, what would such an event be without its main actors: galleries, art spaces and artists? I warmly thank and congratulate all the exhibition venues that will open their doors during the two evenings until late at night, and that will offer visitors a variety of activities to show and experience contemporary art to as many people as possible, whether they are informed, curious or neophytes. And Neophytes for sure will fall in love with Art. “Love is in the Art” says the poster! Art will be all around for this Valentine weekend..
